2003 Cobra Mustangs
The 2003 Cobra Mustangs started the Supercharged Mustang revolution we have with us today!
In early 02, Ford announced the all new 2003 Cobra and with the announcement came news that everyone was waiting to hear! The 2003 Cobra would be fitted with the popular Modular 4.6 engine, but it would also have a littler kicker bolted on, in the form of a SuperCharger! The combination produced 390 horsepower from the facatory, but was immediately tweaked into the mid 500 horsepower range by crafty wrenches.
Improvements for 2003
Along with the right foot increase in power, SVT made additional changes to the Cobra in 2003:
- A cast iron block was used instead of aluminum
- Forged Zolner Pistons
- Manley H-beam connecting Rods with a wrist pin oiling hole
- Aluminium flywheel
- Tremec T-56 six-speed transmission
- 3.55:1 rear axle ratio
- Stronger 31 spline half shafts
- Revised upper and lower control arms.
